Derek DlouhyI found an interest in drawing at a young age. It started as a hobby and through multiple summers of art courses it became the backbone of my career choice.

I moved from Iowa to Chicago to study at the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago. I entered the Game Art and Design program with a sturdy background in traditional, digital, and AutoCAD.

During my course of study in Chicago my creativity and understanding of design matured. I studied a broad range of elements in video game development. In 2006 I was fortunate to attend the Insomania workshop hosted by ConceptArt.org in San Francisco, CA. It was a great learning experience and real motivator.

After I finished school I began working in the games industry. I took an Environment Artist position on a 3D Central art team. In this position I took art direction from multiple game teams in the development process. I was tasked with 3D environment modeling and prop creation. Being on a central art team was a great way to get my feet wet and experience game production process first hand.

Currently I am freelancing and focusing on my concept and design skills. This is a strength of mine and has always been an area where I can excel rapidly. It has always been a passion of mine to express my creativity in 2D. I think that with the right amount of time and the right amount of creativity, anything is possible.
